There are many potential causes of cat odor, but the most common include:
-A Defecation Problem: If your cat is not defecating regularly, their body will start to produce an unpleasant smell. This could be due to a variety of reasons including a lack of fiber in their diet, a medical condition, or simply because they’re lazy. If you’re unable to solve the problem yourself, consider consulting with a veterinarian.
-Bacterial Overgrowth: If your cat is vomiting or having diarrhea often, it can lead to an overgrowth of bacteria in its intestines. This smell can be quite rank and often becomes noticeable when your cat starts to groom excessively or lick their fur excessively. Again, unless the problem is corrected by a vet, you may want to consult with us for help.
-Nose Rot: Cats are susceptible to nose rot due to their naturally dry environment and high level of activity. This infection can cause an excessive amount of nasal discharge that smells rank. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and/or surgery.
